Those who are unfamiliar with the name Kim Richey will likely find they have heard song written by her, perhaps sung by Trisha Yearwood, Gretchen Peters, or any number of other of well known artists.

Thorn in My Heart, Kim's much anticipated new release, and her seventh full length studio album, contains both songs written entirely by Kim and co-writes. It was produced, in a simple and striking fashion, by Neilson Hubbard and features guest appearances from Jason Isbell and Trisha Yearwood. That such artists will give their time and talent, is surely testament to the esteem in which Richey is held amongst her peers.

With no concern or consideration or concern for boundaries, Richey effortlessly blurs the lines between folk, country and Americana, creating what ultimately is her best sounding album yet.

It is one of those rare CDs on which it is hard to select a stand out track, but personal favourites perhaps include London Town and Come On, although I am very much enjoying them all. Kim is a great observer of people; her songs are stories, of people, of life, of emotion. That, coupled with her unique vocals, are doubtless why her music holds so much appeal.

If you are a Kim Richey fan, you should already have this CD…if not, why not? If you are new to her music, this would be a great place to start.
