Artist:Eddie Seville Album: High & Lonesome
Label: Rodeo Records
Tracks: 5
Website: http://www.eddieseville.com
The engine driving Steel Rodeo, Seville also has a solo career, this EP, originally intended to accompany a series of live dates is cast firmly in twangy ringing guitar outlaw country territory, kicking off with the punchy life on the road song 'All Night Radio', producer Isaac Civitello laying down the steady drum beat.
The classic honky tonk sounding title track follows with Peter Adams introducing pedal steel and Jimmy Wilkas on piano solo and lyrics about being alone in your apartment and drowning your misery in a deluge of tequila and a blizzard of cocaine. Next up is a real standout, Seville adding mandolin with Billy K providing guitar solo on 'One More Guitar', a love song to his six string rosewood board Gretsch, promising his actual lover that this will be his last 'affair'.
Mandolin, accordion and pedal steel provide the accompaniment for the military drum, Celtic flavoured 'Seeds In The Wind' about things coming together, ending all too soon with the strum and express strain shuffle, harmonica blowing 'Talking To Myself', Seville playing everything except drums and keys about the pleasure of one's own company when your distracted lover never listens.
It may be short on running time, but it's big on quality and here's hoping a full album isn't too far off on the horizon.
