Nobody's Business
Nobody's Business are a duo bringing together the finger picking guitar talents of Danny Ward and blues harp machinations of Colin Elliot, who I'm pretty sure also gets his lips around the kazoo for at least one track for an album that takes off in the delta and acquires a host of hobo/troubadour blues along the way.
To get the sound of the album right, pretty much the whole thing has been recorded studio live using the first take, best take mentality of their early blues heroes, of course back then, there was no budget for subsequent takes. The result is an album of glorious imperfection. By that I mean only that the warts and all presentation gives it that really authentic sound, there is absolutely no criticism cast on the quality of the playing, it's high throughout, it's just that the odd blemish really adds to the character of the whole, no airbrushing required.
The title track is actually a gob iron lead instrumental, a cover of a Big Walter Horton track and it's introduced me to a blues harp player, I'd not really spent any time with previously, so thanks to Chris and Nobody's Business for that.
I hesitate to say that "Easy" is a covers album, but it is. The reason that I hesitate is because Nobody's Business take the songs and put their own mark right across them, but then that's how the blues, well music, is supposed to work and these guys do it so well.
"Easy" is an album that's also been helping eat up the miles whilst I've been out and about in my car. It's relaxed pace has a great calming effect and allows you to listen to it in a different way than when you are listening just for the sheer pleasure. Top draw.
