It doesn't seem that long ago that I was reviewing an album from Southern Brotherhood and here they are with a brand spanking new four track EP.

Unusually for blues rock combos, Southern Brotherhood are a duo, but between them they make one hell of a sound. "Take Me Back Home" still has a very live field, but they seem to have found a better balance across it. If it's not sounding like a contradiction, there is still a raw exposed edge, but there is something that bit more solid to the core and it gives the Southern rock element that bit more bite.

Right from the off with the title track, you get the hard rocking harmonies, that growl and snarl at you. This is not note perfect, pitch perfect sound and it shouldn't be. This is really picked up on "Return To Alabama" with a rough and ready feel, proper outlaw rock, subtle as a shotgun, with blistering riffs. This is not pistol shooting blues, leaving neat wholes, this is making an impact over a wide area and with that firmer core you really believe it.

Southern Brotherhood have a sound that can appeal to both rock and blues fans alike, this is motorbikes on desert highways stuff, it's just a shame that it's only an EP, I'm really looking forward to the next album with some anticipation.
