Artist:Owl Light Trio Album: Sound Into Light
Label: Woodshed
Tracks: 6

Owl Light Trio are an instrumental group based in Oxfordshire with Jane Griffiths: Fiddle and Viola, Colin Fletcher: Acoustic and Electric Guitar, Jim Penny: Anglo-concertina. They formed around 2016 and tell us that their music comes from a variety of sources. Some are traditional tunes from Britain, Ireland or Europe, many are their own compositions. 'Sound Into Light' draws on both their deep roots in traditional music and their wide-ranging musical backgrounds.
The album was recorded over two days at Strawhouse Studio in north Oxfordshire and in Owl Light Trio's own words "Our arrangements always start with the tune. We play it until we've absorbed it thoroughly, and then we start to improvise around it, gradually refining the ideas that lodge in our ears and our hearts"
This album speaks poetically, lyrically, a chatter of energy that's engaged and responsive. It's hard not to find yourself imagining your own narrative guided by the titles of each track. Viola, fiddle, guitar, concertina in conversation, supping a pint or two (or five) gossiping about who will, who won't, who has, who hasn't, undoubtedly putting the world to rights.
Don't be fooled by the number of tracks; there's well over thirty minutes of enchanting tunes that will accompany you wholesomely (nourishment for the soul) on a daily stroll or sitting on the sofa with your feet up sipping your favourite tipple.
An exquisitely designed album by Barney Morse-Brown with image of Large Owl on Screen by Jan Mankes.
Recorded by Rowland Prytherch, Mixed and Mastered by Colin Fletcher at Starling Audio. There are also many other contributors in the making of this delightfully tactile album but I have to leave something for you to find out for yourselves when you get a copy, which I highly recommend you do.
