Being labelled a "rising folk-pop prodigy" could end up being a being a bit of a burden. As could descriptions like "tales of the human condition in soft focus." It's a testament to Euan Blackman's song writing skills that he rises above these to deliver a debut EP of maturity and beauty.

Everybody Lets You Down is quite soft focus with a distant choir and chimes that place the listener directly in front of his words. "For 15 years I've waited here. For someone to throw me a chance. So, I've made my presence known. And waited by the phone. But never got a second glance".

Busy doing Nothing (not the Disney song) is another dreamy song, this time examining an unwillingness to get out o bed and face the world. The song ends by just shutting down, exactly as the subject has. Bad Things has an almost Wonderwall guitar opening, but with Blackman's soft voice it becomes an almost country flavoured tune with Harmonica and synths washing across it.

Lastly, we have Cherry Stone, that starts with a simple riff behind some more of his charming singing. A guitar solo might sound like the last thing you need in these songs, but the brief interlude it offers sets the sog off again, just as it was threatening to falter. He is clearly on a search for new ways to end songs and Cherry Stone stops rather suddenly and a bit jarringly, but 10 out of 10 for not accepting something more mundane.

His press says that he "crafts introspective and evergreen songs for rainy road trips with wistful gazes". And wistful is the word. "He is regularly enchanted by the magic that defines the work of Phoebe Bridgers and Claude Debussy". And strange as it may sound, I can see what he means. Enchanting beguiling music. If he can translate his social media following into sales and notice in the real world then a fruitful career beckons.
