Beyond The 45The Fatea office also serves as a home for our weekly Along The Tracks show on Blues & Roots Radio and as a rule singles and Eps have generally gone in that direction whilst Fatea generally concentrates on albums and live reviews for our full length feature, but with more artists going back down the single route to keep themselves in the public eye, we thought it was time to reflect that in our offerings and as rules are made to be broken or at the very least adapted, welcome to the Singles Round Up.

Hailing from County Clare. the Ballad of Lucy Sands is the second single release from her upcoming third studio album, 'Sub Nubibus Margarita.' The title track to the soundtrack of the motion picture, The Ballad Of Lucy Sands, the song recounts the harrowing tale of a young girl Lucy who disappeared on the night of 1st December 1881. Three months later her body was hidden in a pile of rocks by a road mender. This ethereal piece is mesmerising, Laura's crystal clear voice perfectly complemented by the atmospheric programming of Wayne Sheehy. DP

South-east based Lizzy Haddingham has been kicking up a storm over the past year or two and is certainly no stranger to FATEA. Her forthcoming single Oprheus, a melancholy anti-love anthem will be released, most appropriately on 14th February. Lizzy's exceptional voice is given full rein on this track, a song which addresses what she sees as flawed ideologies of Greek mythology and the potential issues with letting yourself fall profoundly in love with another. An anthem which will give a voice to those either seeking, or given the current circumstances possibly having little option but to love themselves this year. Well worth keeping an ear out for. DP

The band's debut "EP1" saw them nominated for Fatea's Single/EP/Mini Album of the year, "EP2" equally well respected, "Ae Fond Kiss", sees folk supgergroup, The Magpie Arc shamelessly chasing the Burns market with another version of the classic. When you're being this blatent, you either have to deliver with your tongue firmly in your cheek or deliver a quality rendition and it would be impossible to deny that this "Ae Fond Kiss" definitely does the later, with a rich and vibrant sound that would have the Scots bard clapping away. It says something about the power and influence of the Pogues that in 2021 they are still very much used as the reference for punk or barroom if you prefer, folk in 2021, but they are still a band that many aspire to. Brophy's Law's latest single is highly influenced by their narrative, working class alcholic gives himself to the demon drink and takes the hedonists route to madness. It's a song that works well if you follow the lyric and works equally well as a sing-a-long with a pint in your hand and a chaser on the table, so that would be a result then.

Originally from Uruguay, Mariana Murdocco is a London based singer-songwriter who goes by her surname. With sultry vocals, and electronic sounds with deep, deep bass grooves, the resultant sound has taken her down a more experimental route. With Rainy Day, she hopes that listeners will be inspired to speak up and out, without fear or favour. Quirky and alluringly different, Rainy Day can be accessed now on all streaming platforms. DP

The Night Guild is a side-project from singer-songwriter Pete Devlin and experimental composer James Joys, both of art-pop band Ex-Isles. To be released on 5th February, The Ark Of My Carriage is the first of two singles that will be released in anticipation of their album Devil, Repent!, due for release on the 2nd April. A dark, foreboding piece, its unsettling nature will challenge many. DP

Recorded in Nashville and featuring a host of Nashville-based stalwarts, Sweet Symphony is a punchy, guitar-led number, infused with some stunning keyboard work and glorious vocals. As a keen photographer I am familiar with the usual results of encounters between frogs and birds and it's rarely pretty, but writer-producer Roly Witherow's "The Frog And The Bird", is a modern folk parable about overcoming predjudice and finding a way to bring the best attributes together. It's a good listen and a lot that can be picked out by both sides in a fracturous world and, worst case scenario, even if you think the hope and optimism a bit naive, at least you've got a good song out of it.
